I don’t know anyone who doesn’t enjoy the changing leaves of fall. We may dislike the colder weather or the allergies, but the yellows, reds, and oranges invite us to stop and admire.

There is something remarkable about it: as the leaves approach the end of their life, we marvel at their beauty.

Yet when people grow older, we often see something else. Gray hair. Deepening wrinkles. Slower movements. We see deterioration where we might see beauty. We notice what is fading and overlook what is being revealed.

What if we learned to look at one another the way we look at autumn leaves? What if gray hair, lined faces, and slower steps invited us to pause and appreciate a life whose beauty is still unfolding?

Aging brings real losses, and celebrating its beauty doesn’t erase them. But loss is not all there is to see.

And our hope in Christ is that death will not have the final word. Beyond letting go, we trust in resurrection; we are not destined for the burn pile. We are being called to a life more colorful and vibrant than we can imagine.

What if, like fall, we celebrated the aging, we relished the beauty of our seniors, and like spring we looked to the changing of their seasons with love, appreciation, and hope.
